I just don't see how Z was nothing but "KI spamming" matches like some are saying. The fights against Raditz and Nappa had unprecedented teamwork, the Goku vs Vegeta fight was so well original that it changed anima fights forever and then you had fights like Piccolo vs 17, Goku vs Cell and Goku vs Frieza had pretty much everything you can ask for in a fight. I can barely think of any fights in Z that didn't have the same elements that the DB fights had(technique, creativity etc) but there are many that have things that DB didn't have.

This is why I said I like early Z fights as well. There was still some technical fight and the action was pumped up but IMO things started to go downhill after Frieza saga. The fights were pure power plays, the humans and Piccolo were replaced by the saiyans, and there wasn't any adventure to anything. It just didn't feel like DB anymore. |

That's pretty much how I felt as well. The Cell Saga was a big dip in fight quality for me, but the storyline made up for it. The fights in the Buu saga were the first time In the series that I just genuinely didn't care about them, there were too many and they were just the same ki attacks over and over and over. |

To me it was good that it did not feel like DB anymore because it got rid of the childish aspects. DB was essentially about a little boy's adventures, DBZ was about badass adults fighting at a God-tier level. I guess it's just preferences, but for me I can only take the thought of a toddler sized child destroying some of the most evil and powerful villains on the planet for that long. IMO DB just didn't age as well as Z. And I do agree that the quality of the fighting finally went down in the Buu saga. We did have the epic Goku vs Vegeta rematch and SSJ3 Goku vs Kid Buu, but yes stuff like candy Vegito and Gotenks' Kamikaze Ghost stuff was really low-class in comparison. Funny how that saga that was supposed to be a throwback to DB really didn't deliver in the fights huh. |

If I had to pick just one fight from Z to watch right before I die, it'd be Cell vs Goku. I just love it. Goku is so cool and collected, his technique and tactics vs Cell's are a sight to behold. The IT Kamehameha is flat out awesome and ingenious and shows time and time again Goku really is a genius fighter. And his cool demeanor the entire fight just oozes the notion that this man is a legend. I love that even Cell seems to have a slight bit of "RESPECT" for Goku... |

Weak is childish? Goku vs Tenshinhan is more intense than most DBZ fights. The only real brawler fights I think measure up to the fights in Dragon Ball, and surpass them, are both Goku and Vegeta fights, but that's mostly because of the sheer epicness. The fights themselves aren't anything too spectacular in comparison to Goku vs Tenshinhan. |

Oh please, it's not even the most intense fight in DB as the fights against piccolo daimao Sr and JR were both far more intense. We'd never see Goku tortured that badly again. And every fight in Z is far more spectacular. The power and speed of the punches and kicks, the explosive movements and earth shattering attacks. Goku vs Tien is child like in comparison imo, the animation is just too outdated and the series had not evolved yet. |
